On a quiet, slightly foggy Friday morning at Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, members of the Secura Hosting team gathered along with a group of customers and friends to do battle for the honour of being named winners of the Secura Invitational.
After a fortifying full English breakfast, it was down to the golf academy to hit some practice balls and get a few last minute tips from Simon, the resident professional at Brocket Hall, for those who felt they needed additional edge before the tournament began in earnest.
Team Stableford was the order of the day and as the four-ball groups made their way to the first tee, the fog cleared to reveal what (at the time of writing) may prove to be the very last sunny day of 2014.
A more spectacular backdrop to the event could not have been asked for, with Brocket Hall providing stunning views from almost every angle as you make your way around the two courses on the estate.
The Secura party was playing the Melbourne course, a beautiful Par 72 which concludes on the 18th in the most sensational fashion, with a ferry ride over the lake that you have (hopefully) just cleared to land on the green in front of the manor house.

All the Secura golfers, from the more experienced weekend regulars right through to the occasional players, throughly enjoyed the challenge of the Melbourne despite the numbers of balls they sacrificed to the water. The tournament lead swung back and forth between the groups until the final holes on the back nine when victory was claimed by the team of Kevin, Russ, Andy and Richard, with a very respectable tally of 86 points.
Congratulations, commiserations and general war stories followed over dinner and drinks, before the 2014 event drew to a close.
